Police presence lifted in the neighborhood

In the wake of the attack, many politicians have reacted on social media. Starting with Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne: “My thoughts go to the victim, the wounded, and their loved ones. I salute the courage and professionalism of our law enforcement and emergency services mobilized. We will not give in to terrorism. Never.”

Valérie Pécresse, president of the Ile-de-France region, conveyed her “thoughts for the deceased person and the wounded.” “I salute the responsiveness of the law enforcement who neutralized the assailant. A thorough investigation must be conducted on this attack in the heart of Paris.”

Clémentine Autain, a deputy of La France insoumise, writes: “Horror. Horror. Horror. My total empathy for the relatives of the murdered victim and the wounded.”

Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly, expresses outrage: “Once again, terrorism has struck on our soil, in the heart of Paris. I offer my full support to the victims and their families. Thank you to the law enforcement for their swift intervention. Let us stand united to fight against those who attack our values.”

For Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport, “Paris is in mourning.”

Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, lamented “a new terrorist attack” that has “struck our city.”

Eric Ciotti, president of the Republicans, thanked “our brave police officers who apprehended the individual attacking passersby. Our law enforcement risk their lives every day to protect us. Immense gratitude.”

Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally, adds: “Thank you to the law enforcement who quickly stopped the author of what is likely a deadly attack with Islamist motives targeting tourists in the heart of Paris. Tomorrow morning, the French will wonder how a man with a file, already convicted for planning an attack, a notorious psychiatric case, in the current context, could freely roam the streets of Paris armed on a Saturday night. And they will be right to question.”
