Parisian police officer detained on suspicion of selling hundreds of police files

A Parisian police officer, stationed at the 12th arrondissement police station in Paris, was indicted and placed in provisional detention last spring, suspected of having consulted and sold hundreds of police files, franceinfo learned on Friday.

A report filed on the Pharos platform of the National Directorate of Judicial Police (DNPJ) allowed the opening of the investigation in January 2023. The report mentioned an account on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, offering fake papers and police files for sale. The investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office was entrusted to the Border Police as well as the IGPN.

Investigators identified a suspect, a police officer at the anti-crime brigade (Bac) of the 12th arrondissement of Paris. According to the investigations, this 32-year-old brigadier had sold several hundred files to which he had easy access – processing of judicial records, file of wanted persons, national file of vehicle registrations – as well as fake papers that he bought elsewhere.

According to our information, he pocketed at least several thousand euros. The investigators are examining the possibility of a gambling addiction. In early May, this police officer, described by a former colleague as “above all suspicion”, was indicted for “forgery in public writing by a person holding public authority”, “active corruption” and “passive corruption” and placed in provisional detention, detailed the Paris prosecutor’s office, contacted by franceinfo.
