Paris: What is this building adorned with hieroglyphs, emerging from the ground by the Périphérique?

A new building stands out in Paris near the Peripherique. Motorists who have time to glance at the side of the road may wonder what this new building with its ornate hieroglyphic facade is. To get an idea, one must consider the location along the Peripherique. This is where the Cité internationale universitaire is located, extending to Parc Montsouris. This new building is now part of it.

This is the Maison d’Egypte, joining the ranks of various pavilions from around the world. According to the Cité internationale universitaire’s website, the final touches are currently underway. The house will be able to accommodate its first residents in early 2024.

The residence has 185 rooms, 7 studios, and 3 T2 apartments. “To promote exchanges, students and researchers will be able to take advantage of 8 floor kitchens, as well as a common room, two study rooms, a gym, and two music studios,” says the Cité universitaire. “A solarium on the top floor, as well as an interior garden adorned with Egyptian vegetation and an outdoor garden, will complete these common spaces.”

“The ochre concrete facade is adorned with hieroglyphics dealing with the quest for knowledge,” the Cité universitaire also explains.

The Maison de la Chine will also soon open its doors on the campus, located on the outskirts of the Peripherique, with 300 rooms.
