Paris Centquatre Boss Suspended for Sexual Assault Allegations

José-Manuel Gonçalvès, who has been accused of sexual assault, has been suspended from his position as director of Centquatre-Paris. This decision comes after revelations made by Télérama about Gonçalvès being reported for “sexist and sexual assault,” leading the Mayor of Paris to “suspend him from his duties on a temporary basis.”

An administrative investigation has been entrusted to the inspection générale of the City of Paris, focusing on procedures related to sexual and sexist violence. The details of a potential lawsuit have not been addressed. Gonçalvès has been placed under “administrative suspension for a maximum period of four months.”

In 2022, Gonçalvès was renewed for a three-year term. An extraordinary board of directors meeting was held in response to the report, and the City of Paris emphasizes its commitment to the presumption of innocence while pledging to combat sexual and sexist violence with the utmost firmness and to stand by the victims. During the investigation, Clémentine Aubry, the secretary general and deputy director, will lead the Centquatre.
