Paris 2024: This town in Maine-et-Loire will join the celebration

In a little more than five months, on Friday, July 26, 2024, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be launched. In Ombrée d’Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), Mayor Patrick Esnault and his colleagues will offer various activities as part of this global multi-sport competition. “The municipality has implemented a sports service since the end of the previous term. The idea is to develop sports practice in the area,” explains the mayor.

“This service supports all sports associations,” he assures. In addition, residents have access to six city stadiums. And soon, two fitness areas will be built, where sports activities will be organized. The goal of these new facilities is to “complement the existing offer” and “bring families together” around sports, particularly participating in events related to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Furthermore, 130 primary school students in Ombrée d’Anjou will attend the passage of the Olympic flame in Lion-d’Angers (Maine-et-Loire). Added to this is the “2024 challenge”, where residents of the municipality report the kilometers they run or cycle.

“Last year, we aimed for a total of 2024 kilometers. But, we were not ambitious enough, as we exceeded 9000 kilometers,” smiles Patrick Esnault. “This year, we want to beat that record,” confirms Flavien Brianceau, head of the sports and leisure department in Ombrée d’Anjou, before adding: “Every 24th of each month, we organize a sports event. A photo contest on the theme of sports is also planned.”

The municipality employees are also involved, as they have the opportunity to participate in a challenge reserved for them. “We gather them during lunch breaks to practice running,” says Patrick Esnault. “About twenty employees participated last year,” concludes the mayor.
