Paris 2024: Basketball Tournament Draws for Women’s and Men’s Teams Set for March 19th

The question on everyone’s mind is whether France will win a new Olympic medal in basketball. The answer will begin to unfold on July 27th in Villeneuve-d’Ascq. But before the best basketball players in the world face off in northern France at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the draw will take place on March 19th in Mies, Switzerland.

To pick and allocate teams for the women’s tournament, FIBA has enlisted the help of Australian Penny Taylor, silver medalist in 2004 and 2008 with the Opals. For the men’s tournament, Carmelo Anthony, the former small forward and player for the New York Knicks, who won gold with Team USA in 2008, 2012, and 2016, will be in charge of the draw process.

The women’s tournament will bring together 12 teams: Germany, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, United States, Spain, France, Japan, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, and Serbia. The Americans are the clear favorites, having won seven consecutive titles. With Marine Johannès and Gabby Williams, the French will have a say and will be looking to win their third medal, after winning silver in 2012 and bronze in 2021.

The highly anticipated Olympic Basketball Tournaments Paris 2024 Draws for both men and women are scheduled for March 19 and will take place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Switzerland.

In the men’s tournament, France will have to beware of several opponents, including Germany, the reigning world champion, Serbia, the runner-up in the last World Cup, Canada with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the United States, Australia, as well as Japan and surprise team South Sudan from the last World Cup.

The final four spots will be awarded during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) held from July 2nd to 7th. Among the contenders, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Italy, and the Bahamas will try to secure their participation.

The draw will be based on the FIBA world ranking, as well as taking into account the continents. In terms of ranking, the French women are in 3rd place, while the men’s team is ranked 9th. It is worth noting that the draw will be broadcast on the FIBA YouTube channel.
