The number of broadcasters for Paris 2024 Paralympics will be even higher than in Tokyo, from August 28 to September 8. The Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 will be broadcast in over 160 countries, setting a new record compared to Tokyo with 154 nations covered in 2021, reaching a total of 4.1 billion viewers. This year, TV rights have increased by over 20% in the last three years, now amounting to around 35 million euros. Tony Estanguet is delighted: “It’s fantastic news, reaching this record of sales six months before the event is further proof of the huge anticipation worldwide. For Paris 2024, this is an important step towards our goal of increasing visibility for Paralympic sports and athletes this summer. We have prepared an extraordinary stage, with iconic venues in the heart of the city to showcase the performances of Paralympic athletes and inspire new audiences in France and around the world.”

Lisko: “All 22 sports will benefit from live coverage at some point”

According to John Lisko, the Chief Media Rights Officer at the International Paralympic Committee, “interest in the Paralympic Games has more than doubled in the past eight years.” In his view, a “sensational” improvement in performances over the past decade has increased interest from viewers and broadcasters – in France, as always, France Télévisions will cover the events two weeks after the able-bodied athletes’ competitions. “Paris 2024 could really change the game. Our goal is to engage and get even more rights holders. We want to give every person the opportunity to consume and enjoy the Paralympic Games.”

The executive mentions television, but also content distribution, social platforms, digital content, and radio. “The sports offering has never been better, and with the support of Paris 2024, all 22 sports will benefit from live coverage at some point.” Andrew Parsons, the head of the IPC (International Paralympic Committee), summed it up in a final overall statement (for Franceinfo): “Expectations are very high.”
