Operation Clean Sweep XXL : Anti-Drug Raids Underway in 6 French Cities

The Minister of the Interior announced on Wednesday, March 27 on X that 6 operations to combat drug trafficking are currently underway, leading to “867 arrests so far”.

The “clean sweep” operations continue. On Wednesday, March 27, Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced on X (formerly Twitter) that 6 “XXL” actions to fight drug trafficking are still ongoing. Several locations are mentioned, including the Paris region, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Clermont-Ferrand, and Dijon.

In Île-de-France, in addition to Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis and Hauts-de-Seine are highlighted by Beauvau’s tenant.

“These operations have resulted in 867 arrests so far and the seizure of numerous weapons and substantial financial resources,” said the Minister of the Interior, adding that they will not “back down”.

During a government question session at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Secretary of State for the City Sabrina Agresti-Roubache detailed the “317 arrests and 180 detentions” in the Bouches-du-Rhône, a few days after Emmanuel Macron’s surprise visit to Marseille.

State services mobilized for “several weeks”
In a message sent on Tuesday by the Prefecture of the Nord department, it was stated that the operation “clean sweep XXL” launched in the Lille conurbation will be ongoing. “(The operation) will mobilize for several weeks many state services,” the message addressed to the press read.

These actions include arrests, searches, discoveries of stash apartments, clean-ups of public spaces, and deployments of law enforcement personnel to prevent drug dealing from spreading in the cities in question.
