One Suspected Team in Paris and its Suburbs

The Paris public prosecutor’s office announced on Monday, November 6th, that the same team is suspected of carrying out various markings of David stars in Paris and its suburbs “in a single trip,” reports AFP.

However, the anti-Semitic nature of these tags has not been established at this stage.

“The investigations are ongoing.”

Several dozen David stars were discovered on Tuesday, October 31st in the morning, tagged on building facades in the 14th district of Paris as well as in other places in Paris and its suburbs. Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne denounced these “despicable acts,” seeing them as antisemitic, along with many other political figures.

Initially, three investigations were opened in Bobigny, Nanterre, and Paris for damage to another’s property aggravated by the circumstance that it was committed because of origin, race, ethnicity, or religion. The three have now been consolidated in Paris, the capital’s public prosecutor’s office announced on Monday morning.

“It appears that the same team may have carried out the various markings during a single trip. The investigations are ongoing,” adds the public ministry. On Friday, November 3rd, the same source had specified that “it has not been established that this star has an antisemitic connotation, but this cannot be ruled out at the outset.”

250 stars tagged in Paris, according to the police prefect

On Sunday, November 5th, on BFMTV, police prefect Laurent Nuñez talked about a “unique case compared to other antisemitic acts” and estimated the number of star markings to be 250.

He confirmed that an “author team that seems to coordinate quite well” was in the crosshairs of investigators and wanted these stars to be seen. The team allegedly targeted “certain buildings where members of the Jewish community did not live.”

According to him, 257 antisemitic acts have been recorded in the Paris region and “90 people have been arrested” since October 7th, the start of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
