New York Police Utilize AirTags to Combat Car Theft

Against car theft: New York police distribute AirTags

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is encouraging citizens to use Apple’s AirTags in their vehicles to help curb theft in and around the city. The Bluetooth and ultra-wideband trackers, available from just under 32 euros, can help locate stolen vehicles. The NYPD plans to distribute 500 AirTags free of charge in the Bronx, where there has been a surge in car thefts. New York Mayor Eric Adams recommends hiding the AirTag in a vehicle in an unknown location for optimal tracking. While Samsung also offers similar technology, it remains unclear why the NYPD specifically recommends Apple’s product. However, Apple’s AirTags have been recently equipped with stronger anti-stalking measures, also making them easier for thieves to discover.
