New tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics to go on sale Thursday

Paris 2024 plans to release a new wave of tickets on the day the Olympic and Paralympic medals are unveiled, this Thursday. Starting at 10 am, several tens of thousands of tickets will be put on sale as part of what the committee calls the “surprise ticketing events of Paris 2024”, which will take place over the following months. During the last release on November 30th, a little over 400,000 tickets were sold in just a few hours.

What is being put up for sale? According to Paris 2024, several tens of thousands of tickets will be available, although no specific number has been given. All sports are included, but “some tickets will be very limited in number,” the organizing committee warns. It is expected that finals for athletics, judo, or swimming are included, as well as urban sports like skateboarding, BMX, 3×3 basketball, and breaking.

In fact, 95% of the tickets are for events in the Île-de-France region and 45% will be priced at less than 100€. Tickets for the four opening and closing ceremonies will also be released, particularly for the Paralympic Games closing ceremony on September 8th at the Stade de France, starting at 45€, emphasizes the committee. The principle remains first come, first served for internet users on the unique ticketing site www.tickets.paris2024.org. Tickets will be reserved for those who have not yet reached the quota of 30 tickets per person, on the same account, acquired during previous sales phases.

Just under 8 million tickets out of the 10 million available have already been sold, according to Paris 2024.

What can be purchased before Thursday? There are still tickets available for team sports in the provinces, especially for the Olympic football tournament in Nantes, Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Bordeaux, Nice, and Marseille. The minimum price is 24€ and 30€ for matches involving the French men’s and women’s teams, the dates of which have been known from the start, unlike other team sports. The French men’s team will play its pool matches in Marseille on July 24th at 9 pm, then in Nice on the 27th at the same time, before playing the last match in Marseille again on the 30th at 7 pm.

The French women’s team will play in Lyon on the 25th and 31st of July at 9 pm, with a pool match on the 28th at 9 pm in Saint-Étienne. Tickets are also available for the preliminary basketball tournament in Lille, starting at 50€, and for the handball finals, also in the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, starting at 45€.

What about the Paralympic Games? Thursday’s release will include a few “sold out” sessions, according to Paris 2024, such as the wheelchair fencing events at the Grand Palais. Tickets for the 22 sports in the Paralympic Games (August 28th-September 8th) have been on sale since October 9th, the day after the second Paralympic day.

The starting price for the 2.8 million tickets sold is 15€ and the committee has created several packages, such as a discovery pass for 24€ to attend multiple events in central Paris or in the south of the capital, as well as a family offer with two children’s tickets for 10€ each for every two adult tickets purchased. The ticket sales will continue until stocks are exhausted. In December, Tony Estanguet stated that nearly 830,000 tickets had been sold, with 80% going to the government, local authorities, and Games partners. “We know that 40% are sold after the start of the Olympic Games,” pointed out the head of Paris 2024 on that occasion.
