New Pro-Palestine Demonstration Banned in Paris, Fear of Wild Gatherings

The Paris Police Prefecture fears clashes in the capital during a banned pro-Palestine demonstration. This is the reason behind their decision to use drones in the city. The goal is to prevent serious public disturbances in certain areas of the capital.

The tension is particularly high since France raised its alert level to “terrorism emergency” following the attack in Arras, Pas-de-Calais. In Paris, the security measures have been reinforced in schools and institutions. Saturday demonstrated the current tension in Île-de-France, with the evacuation of the Louvre, Versailles, and Lyon train station.

Given the situation, the Police Prefecture refuses to authorize gatherings that could “cause serious disturbances”. On Saturday, a banned pro-Palestine demonstration took place at Place de la République, resulting in 19 arrests and 759 fines.
