AI update: new podcast from heise online

Artificial Intelligence: A Revolution in the Making

In recent weeks and months, there has been an avalanche of news on artificial intelligence (AI). Although every day presents new areas of application, there are warnings and cheering messages as well. To bring order to the tangle of developments around AI, the “KI Update” podcast, alongside colleagues from heise online and its magazines c’t, MIT Technology Review, iX, Make, and Mac & i, hopes to provide an overview.

Every day from Monday to Thursday at 3 p.m, listeners are treated to a news overview of AI. The team is supported by The Decoder. On Fridays, a DeepDive episode is released at the same time, where the team delves deeper into a topic with changing guests from the editorial offices and experts.

In the podcast, the team seeks to answer questions about AI that are critical to our daily lives. They explore what is hype and what is legitimate enthusiasm. They also investigate what AI can already do and how it could make our lives more comfortable. Moreover, what can AI not yet do, and what limitations should it have?

In this debut season, the podcast is led by Volker Zota, editor-in-chief of heise online, Jan-Keno Janssen of c’t magazine, who has already tested numerous AI applications on the YouTube channel for c’t, and the host.

AI is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to make our lives more comfortable. For instance, AI could take over administrative work in nursing homes, freeing up nursing staff to focus on people. It could also assist doctors in medical diagnoses, never having a bad day and missing something on an X-ray. Automated tax returns would be a dream come true for many.

As journalists, AI can help us to research things faster, come up with better ideas, write more accurately, and formulate things better. However, AI can also make the job more difficult. “For us as journalists, it is becoming much more difficult to check texts by others, because you cannot rely on everything being written by human hands, but on the fact that texts may be created from some generative AI model,” explains Volker Zota.

Change is always a challenge for humanity. But embracing the technological advancements that AI integration brings to many areas of our lives makes sense. As the podcast team agrees, we cannot avoid the inevitable integration of AI because we will all come into contact with artificial intelligence at some point, whether we realize it or not.

The “KI Update – A Heise Podcast” is the perfect podcast to stay informed about the latest AI developments. It is now available on major podcast platforms.
