Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Gran Turismo’ Trailer Revs Up as a Gripping Sports Drama Adaptation

Impressions on the ‘Gran Turismo’ Movie Trailer

I have to admit that when it was announced that the people at Sony Pictures had given the green light to a film based on the already legendary driving simulator ‘Gran Turismo‘ I could not help but raise an eyebrow and express a distrust that the teaser failed to dispel.

Today, after seeing the first trailer of the feature film —which you have on these lines—, I feel obliged to swallow my words, because things don’t look bad at all.

Sports Drama 101

Judging by the preview, there is little doubt that this ‘Gran Turismo’ will once again put the clichés and clichés of automotive sports dramas on the table, with the typical arc of the aspirant with everything to lose who ends up triumphing in a world to which it does not belong; but everything seems to indicate that the tape has an unexpected secret weapon: the making of Neill Blomkamp.

The South African filmmaker, responsible for titles such as ‘District 9’, ‘Elysium’ or ‘Chappie’ and known for his taste for technology and visual effects seems to have put all his energy into offering a show to match, and in hardly a couple of minutes, we have been able to see a good handful of really impressive shots that point to an experience worthy of the big screen.

Impressive Cast and Release Date

The cast of ‘Gran Turismo’ is up to the task, made up of names like David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madewke, Darren Barnet or Djimon Hounsou; a handful of stars that will arrive in our cinemas on August 11.

While we wait for the premiere, I leave you with its brief official synopsis.

“Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film tells the story of a young Gran Turismo gamer who, thanks to his gaming skills, wins a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional racing driver”.
