Negligent Referee Endangers Unconscious MMA Fighter

MMA: Dangerous! Referee overlooks unconscious MMA fighter

Referee Overlooks Unconscious Fighter

The recent MMA event “Fury FC 76” in San Antonio, USA, left many speechless as referee Frank Collazo overlooked a crucial aspect of the fight – the unconsciousness of one of the fighters. In the fourth round, Mexican flyweight Gianni Vazquez falls unconscious while being forced into a triangle choke by his opponent, Edgar Chairez. However, instead of stopping the fight, Collazo does nothing, putting Vazquez’s life at risk.

The Agonizing 50 Seconds

Chairez continues to choke his opponent for 50 agonizing seconds as the referee continues to overlook Vazquez’s situation. Even the commentators are panicked as they realize what is happening, forcing one of them to yell at Collazo from a meter away, begging him to stop the fight.

The End of the Fight

Chairez eventually weakened his grip, and that was when the referee ended the fight. Vazquez slowly regains consciousness, but the damage was already done. He suffered from fractured bones and ligament injuries in his right arm. The mistake made by Collazo has caused an uproar on social media, with UFC pro Cody Durden demanding the revocation of Collazo’s license.

Organizer’s Announcement

The organizers released a statement after the event, announcing that they would be revising the referee selection and training process. They also emphasized that a referee’s primary role is to protect fighters when they can’t do it themselves – a role that Collazo failed to fulfill in this instance. The consequences of Collazo’s mistake remain to be seen.

The Fighting Game is Not a Game

Gianni Vazquez, who suffered the most from Collazo’s mistake, later wrote on Instagram about the seriousness of the fighting game. He emphasized that it’s not a game and that fighters can’t afford to take chances with their safety.
