Mailu 2.0: Get an In-house e-mail server for the Raspberry Pi

In-house e-mail server: Mailu 2.0 now also for the Raspberry Pi

Mailu 2.0 brings several new features and improvements to the open-source email server. One major addition is ARM support, allowing users to run Mailu as a Docker image on a Raspberry Pi. Previously, the server was only available as multi-arch images for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64/v8.

The new version also includes a revamped webmail client, with SnappyMail replacing the previously included Rainloop client. SnappyMail is a fork of Rainloop and is touted as an easier-to-use and more secure alternative. System administrators also have access to a RESTful API, which can be used to automate tasks like adding new domains or users.

Mailu has also implemented several security enhancements. Passwords must now be at least eight characters long and cannot be found on HaveIBeenPwned. The server also remembers the requested URL when logging in and redirects users there after successful authentication. Malicious email attachments are automatically blocked using OLETools, which examines attachments for malicious macros and executable files.

Spam filtering has also been improved with Mailu 2.0. The server’s Rspamd override system has been revised, and recognized spam messages are no longer automatically marked as read.

Mailu is released as free and open-source software, with detailed installation and operating instructions available on the project’s homepage.
