Live – Paris: Individual Arrested After Injuring Three People with a Knife at Gare de Lyon

An individual attacked several people with a knife on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Gare de Lyon in Paris, according to the police prefecture. Three people were injured, one seriously, with life-threatening prognosis.

The man was arrested with a knife and a hammer. A witness who was present during the attack described the man as walking calmly and suddenly striking one person, then another.

The circumstances of the attack were further clarified by the police. The suspect first attempted to strike a woman in the train station, and when a man intervened, the assailant used a knife to attack him.

The attacker, a 32-year-old Malian man, was found in possession of Italian residency documents and medication for psychiatric conditions. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that the assailant had attacked three passersby with a knife and a hammer, and the motive for the attack was still under investigation.

The Parquet Anti-Terroriste had not taken over the investigation at that point. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin expressed his gratitude for those who subdued the attacker. An investigation has been opened following the knife attack at Gare de Lyon.

The traffic in the train station was impacted by the attack, leading to delays on certain train lines. The individual was arrested by railway security agents, and at this time was not providing any information about the motive for the attack.
