JO Paris 2024: France’s Complaining Spirit Before the Winning Spirit?

Every day brings a new Olympic controversy. Whether it’s the official poster that supposedly shows “disrespect for our tricolour flag” and the “cancellation of our Christian heritage”, as claimed by the far right; or a statement from an Olympic champion saying the Seine is “not meant for swimming”; or even the decision to make the opening ceremony free for some spectators but now by invitation only. It has been another challenging week for Paris 2024.

The criticism of the Olympics has been ongoing for months now. From concerns about rats and bedbugs, threats of strikes, ticket prices, the predicted transportation chaos, the location of the Olympic village, and more. It seems like the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as a unique platform, have become a target for criticism and complaints.
