iOS 16.5 and more: bug fixes and security improvements for iPhones & Co

Apple Releases Updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS

On Thursday evening, Apple released updates for its operating systems: iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, macOS 13.4, watchOS 9.5, and tvOS 16.5. The new software versions are also available for HomePods. Users can download and install the updates directly on their devices through the integrated software update feature.

What’s New in iOS 16.5?

The new features of iOS 16.5 include a new, colorful “Pride Celebration” wallpaper to honor the LGBTQ+ community and culture. In addition to the wallpaper, there’s a new variant of the Pride watch face for the Apple Watch. The Apple News app gets a new tab to access sports news and scores. Although in Germany, Apple News is still only available as a widget and not as an app. iOS and iPadOS 16.5 are said to fix several annoying bugs, including a potential freeze in system-wide Spotlight search. Additionally, an issue that prevented podcasts from loading in the car with CarPlay has been solved. A bug that could cause the screen time settings to reset has also been fixed, ensuring that tool settings are correctly synchronized across all devices.

Updates in macOS Ventura 13.4

macOS Ventura 13.4 aims to ensure that unlocking a MacBook or desktop Mac via Apple Watch works reliably again and that the connection to Bluetooth keyboards is established more quickly after a restart. The error in the screen time settings has also been fixed, as in iOS 16.5.

Updates in watchOS 9.5

WatchOS 9.5 brings bug fixes, including possibly the elimination of a serious problem with iMessage, in addition to the new Pride watch face.

Security Gaps

The updates eliminate a number of security gaps, though Apple usually gives details later in the evening. Part of iOS 16.5 and macOS 13.4 also includes the patches in the quick security measures that were recently delivered for the first time.
