HSV – From 36 to 66,000: Supporters celebrate their 30th anniversary

The HSV Supporters Club Celebrates 30 Years of Fan Support

The HSV Supporters Club turns 30 on Tuesday, marking decades of dedicated fan support for the club. What began as an idea in the 1990s has grown into a mega department with 66,000 members today.

The Founding of the Supporters Club

The idea of a fan department for HSV was inspired by similar organizations in England. In 1993, the Supporters Club was officially founded in Hamburg by 36 members.

Co-founder Dirk Mansen recalls that the aim was to unite supporters and get them involved in the club’s activities. The group started by organizing trips away from home, which soon expanded to include special trains carrying up to 1,000 passengers.

Growth of the Supporters Club

The Supporters Club quickly grew into one of the largest fan groups in the country, and today there are 1,320 official fan clubs. The Club’s members continue to organize events and promotions, including panel discussions with club officials and players.

HSV recognizes the importance of the Supporters Club, and has released a special jersey to mark the 30th anniversary. The jersey with the SC logo sold more on the first day than the home jersey at the start of the season.

Celebrating 30 Years of Fan Support

The milestone birthday will be celebrated on Tuesday with a panel discussion featuring CFO Dr. Eric Huwer and founder Dirk Mansen. The event will take place at the Haus des Sports at 8 p.m., with a journey through the supporters’ time.

The dedication and commitment of the Supporters Club has been crucial to the success of HSV. As the Club moves forward, it will continue to rely on the support of fans to create a diverse and thriving community within the organization.
