Google Unveils PaLM API and Enhanced AI Features for Workspace

Google provides PaLM API and more AI capabilities for Workspace

Google has recently announced that its API will now be open to PaLM, the Pathway Language Model. PaLM has been trained with a unique system known as the Pathway system, which makes it highly efficient. Access to PaLM can be obtained through Google Cloud in the new environment called MakerSuite. Developers can integrate the language model into their own applications, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. MakerSuite is an intuitive platform that facilitates the implementation of prototypes for developers.

Prompt engineering and synthetic data generation will be available in the future. Users can add their names to a waiting list on Google in order to access these features which are currently only available in private preview. The Google Cloud platform allows users to construct or customize their own generative AI models. Vertex AI, an ML-based platform, has been expanded for Trusted Testers to use.

Google Workspace will be equipped with a new set of AI functions to improve collaboration. Previously available AI functions include Smart Compose for writing emails and automating summaries in Google Docs. New additional features will be made available in the coming weeks, allowing users to enter a topic, and then receive its relevant template. According to a blog post, this aims to assist in composing an onboarding email to a new colleague.

It has been observed that Google’s latest announcements, yet again, exclude any language model open for mass or individual testing. Trusted Testers are selected from internal and external sources. In the past, Google’s conversational AI, Bard, was only open to strict testing procedures following unreliable answers from the AI, which had resulted in a reduction in Google’s shares.

Google emphasizes its commitment to user security and transparency in its AI applications. Google acknowledges that AI applications require guidelines and has made a pledge to continue advancing its technology to improve AI models that aim to promote safety and aid all individuals with their needs.
