The popular show “Duel around the World” celebrated its tenth anniversary on Saturday night, and true to form, the cult moderators Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf did not disappoint when it came to putting their celebrity candidates through the wringer.
Actress Nilam Farooq had to balance at a height of 900 meters between two floating hot air balloons, while actress Jessica Schwarz completed a whopping 57 roller coaster rides in a Dutch amusement park. Meanwhile, comedian Wigald Boning had to make his own survival tools, and singer Sasha became disliked in Norway on a TV show.
Sasha’s challenge included behaving like an a** on Norway’s biggest morning show, insulting the whole country and presenting a T-shirt with the imprint: “Norway stinks like moose piss.” The pop star later admitted to feeling ashamed of his actions, but he did earn a country point for Klaas.
Comedian Wigald Boning’s challenge involved eating a broom, removing his nose hair with a commercial New Year’s Eve rocket, and sinking in the Baltic Sea with self-made diving equipment. Despite his initial panic and lack of confidence in his manual skills, Boning’s diving construction held up, earning Klaas another country point.
While Nilam Farooq and Jessica Schwarz also earned a point for Joko, Klaas was ahead in the studio games and earned a time advantage in the grand final. The “World Champion” trophy was hidden in the house, and Klaas was the first to find it, earning him the title of “World Champion.”
Despite having done “this nonsense” for ten years now, the moderators, including Jeannine Michaelsen, play on, on and on. The show will return for another “duel around the world” in the fall.
