France Subsidizes Chip Factory with €2.9 Billion

The French government has agreed to subsidize a new chip factory near Grenoble with €2.9 billion. The factory is expected to produce 620,000 wafers each year, and is being built by European chip manufacturer STMicroelectronics and its US partner Globalfoundries. The factory will be located in Crolles, where two existing chip factories are already located.
