Fred Kerley changes coaches ahead of the Paris Olympics

The offseason has just begun, but the coaching transfer market is already in full swing. Just hours after Marcell Jacobs announced his move to join Rana Reider’s team in Jacksonville, Fred Kerley also revealed a significant change.

The American world champion in the 2022 100m, who was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2023 edition in Budapest, has decided not to continue working with his Grenadian coach, Alleyne Francique. Kerley announced that he will now be trained by Quincy Watts, the 1992 Olympic champion in the 400m and current head coach at USC (University of Southern California), who has been working with Rai Benjamin for several seasons.

“Changing coaches is always risky, especially just a few months before the Olympics, but I felt like I had to take this chance,” said 28-year-old Kerley. “I’m putting myself under the guidance of coach Watts and I trust him to bring out the best in me during what will be the most important year of my career.”
