Firefox 111: Patching 13 Vulnerabilities for Secure Web Browsing

Web Browsers: Firefox 111 patches 13 vulnerabilities

Firefox 111 has recently been released and it has closed a total of 13 security gaps while Firefox ESR 102.9 still has six sealed security gaps. While this update doesn’t offer significant new functions, it does provide useful new features. For instance, Firefox now activates native notifications on Windows and brings new localizations for certain Italian dialects. Additionally, Firefox Relay users are now able to create relay email masks directly from the Firefox credentials manager, provided they are logged in to their Firefox account.

One crucial aspect of the updated browser is that it offers significant security improvements. According to the security report, the Mozilla developers classify seven of the closed vulnerabilities as high risk and six as medium risk. In Firefox ESR 102.9, there are at least two vulnerabilities with a high threat rating and four with a medium severity rating. Two of the high-risk vulnerabilities only affects the Android version of Firefox. Attackers could have misused this in the past for spoofing attacks.

It’s important for users of the Firefox web browser to check whether they have the current version running and initiate the update if necessary. They can do this by clicking on the application menu, which is behind the symbol with the three horizontal stripes to the right of the address bar, and then continuing with “Help” – “About Firefox.” If necessary, this triggers the update process and users are prompted to restart their browser. Users of other operating systems like Linux usually have to call up the system’s own software management to receive the update.

The previous Firefox browser versions were already updated with core security updates in mid-February, with 19 and 14 vulnerabilities that the developers fixed in versions 110 and ESR 102.8 respectively. Firefox continues to make strides in improving its browser to keep its users safe and secure.
