FDP’s call for e-fuel subsidy dismissed as less important amidst other projects

Greens on the FDP's demand for an e-fuel subsidy: "Other projects are more important"

The Greens have expressed their desire to prioritize tax policies differently than FDP Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner. This comes after coming to a compromise in the combustion engine dispute. Lindner recently announced that he plans to reduce taxes on e-fuels, a climate-neutral car fuel. The deputy Green parliamentary group leader, Julia Verlinden, urged Lindner to focus on projects that have already been agreed upon in the coalition rather than considering subsidies for niche products in the future.

Verlinden criticized the Ministry of Finance for blocking or neglecting some agreed projects over the past year and a half. One of these projects involves reforming the distance allowance based on ecological and social factors, as well as reducing environmentally harmful subsidies.

Verlinden also emphasized the urgency of converting the company car privilege, particularly in terms of contributing to climate protection and justice. She believes that these long-agreed measures must be actively pursued now that they can make an immediate impact.

The Greens’ call for prioritizing tax policies reflects their commitment to promoting environmental and social sustainability. By reforming existing policies and reducing harmful subsidies, they hope to create a fairer and more equitable society while also protecting the planet.
