Extreme Heat in Paris: Key Takeaways from the City’s Experiment

It was a unique exercise in which 270 people participated. Schoolchildren, healthcare professionals, members of the Police Prefecture, and city personnel all took part. On October 13 and 17, the city of Paris, with the help of the company Crisotech, organized a simulation of extreme heatwave in the capital. The objective of the exercise was to test the coordination of services if the capital were to face extreme temperatures of up to 50 degrees and to analyze the multiple problems that this kind of situation could generate.

Three months later, the city presented on Wednesday, January 31, the first lessons learned from this operation. “Good coordination among all stakeholders will allow us to face any potential crises,” insists Pénélope Komites, the deputy (PS) in charge of Paris’s resilience strategy. “It will also be necessary to identify resting places for all the individuals who will be mobilized in the event of a crisis,” anticipates the elected official.
