Disney to Release First Episode of “Star Wars” Spinoff Series “Ahsoka” on August 23
Disney fans and “Star Wars” enthusiasts have something to look forward to as the entertainment giant plans to release the first episode of “Ahsoka,” a spinoff series, on August 23. The series features ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who was first introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice in the animated “The Clone Wars” series. The show takes place after Episode 6, and Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, will confront Empire Admiral Thrawn, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen.
Dawson has previously guest-starred as Ahsoka in Disney’s “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” Now, she gets to lead her own series. The show will consist of eight episodes released on a weekly basis.
Other “Star Wars” TV Series and Films by Disney
Apart from “Ahsoka,” Disney has other “Star Wars” TV series and films in development. For example, the studio recently cancelled a second season of “Kenobi” due to mixed reviews but renewed “Andor” for a second season in August 2024. The TV series “The Acolyte,” set in a new era of the “Star Wars” universe, is also scheduled for release in 2024. Additionally, “Skeleton Crew,” due for release this year, caters to a younger audience and features several children in leading roles, alongside Jude Law.
In terms of film projects, Disney announced three upcoming films in April. One of James Mangold’s projects explores the origins of the Jedi and takes place thousands of years before the first “Star Wars” film. Dave Filoni’s movie will follow the new republic storylines, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s project ties in with Episode 9, “The Rise of Skywalker,” with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey. The film’s release date is yet to be announced, and it’s unclear whether it’s the start of a new trilogy or a standalone film.
In conclusion, Disney’s “Star Wars” universe is expanding, with a range of TV series and films in the pipeline. “Ahsoka” marks an exciting addition to the “Star Wars” franchise, and fans eagerly await the arrival of other projects in the future.
