“Everyone left without a word”: New blow for Anne Hidalgo, a major mishap before the Paris Olympics

The Paris Olympics are fast approaching and, apparently, the political class is not really on the same page. In recent days, there has been a lot of tension between some major players in this global event. Invited on the Quotidien show, Anne Hidalgo stated that there would be “two things on which we will not be ready” at the time of the Olympics, “transportation” and “shelter for homeless people”. These remarks did not sit well with an important minister, who then criticized Anne Hidalgo.

Indeed, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Minister of Sports and the Olympics, took aim at the mayor of Paris for her comments. “We will be stronger than that. If we have to deliver the Games without her, and if we have to deliver them despite her, we will do it,” she declared. Faced with this controversy, the 64-year-old politician decided to leave X (formerly Twitter) while criticizing the direction taken by the platform since its acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk. But the troubles do not stop there for the native of San Fernando, Spain.

Anne Hidalgo was expected on Tuesday, November 28th for a press briefing during which she was supposed to speak, as reported by Le Parisien. An appearance related to the Paris Olympics as it was the inauguration of the new look of the City Hall, decorated in the colors of the Games. The head of the organizing committee of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet, was present, as well as the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach, but the event was canceled. According to our colleagues, who describe it as a true “mishap” on the part of the City of Paris, the decision was made at the last minute. A show did take place, but no speeches were made and all the actors in this event left without a single word. “Everyone left without a word. The sixty journalists present on site were surprised by this turnaround,” reports Le Parisien.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of sports, Pierre Rabadan, there is “absolutely no problem between the Cojo and the City, therefore the mayor”.
