The man was transferred to the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police headquarters on Saturday, March 2nd. He will be questioned and possibly placed in custody later if his condition allows it.

A very unstable and worrying profile within the Parisian police institution. A man was transferred to the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police headquarters (IPPP) on Saturday, March 2nd, the administration confirmed to Libération on Thursday, March 7th, confirming information from BFMTV. “A contractual employee of the PP, a graphic designer in charge of formatting maps intended to be made known to the general public and therefore not dealing with sensitive information, was transported to the IPPP on Saturday evening after displaying very incoherent behavior and statements,” the police prefecture said.

The man has been hospitalized in a specialized unit for care pending his recovery. “He will be questioned later,” the same source adds. According to BFMTV, he was talking about terrorism to a passerby, telling him he was going to “do carnage.”

According to a police source speaking to Libé, the man is described as “extremely fragile, very unstable.” However, he is not particularly known within the administration. This same source indicates that contractual staff at the police prefecture undergo basic psychological tests before being able to take up their positions.

On October 3, 2019, Mickaël Harpon, an administrative agent at the Paris police headquarters, stabbed to death four of his colleagues within the prestigious institution before being shot dead. The IT specialist with a top-secret clearance had been hired in 2003. He had become radicalized in the shadows of his colleagues.
