Door of Jewish couple’s home set on fire, suspect transferred for psychiatric evaluation

The entrance door of an apartment belonging to a Jewish couple was set on fire on the morning of Friday, October 20, according to a judicial source, confirming information from Le Parisien. It has been learned that a man residing in the building was arrested and taken into custody after voluntarily presenting himself to the police at the scene, just a few minutes after the incident.

However, his custody was quickly lifted due to his psychiatric condition, as stated by the same judicial source. The man, born in 1998, was subsequently taken to the psychiatric facility at the Paris police headquarters.

According to our information, his custody may possibly resume if his condition is deemed compatible, which is not the case at this stage.

An investigation has been launched by the Paris prosecutor’s office for the crime of religious vandalization using dangerous means against individuals, according to a judicial source cited by BFMTV.
