Disruptions for Law Enforcement: Summer Leave Cancelled, Transfers Delayed at Paris Olympics

There is blue, yellow, orange, red and scarlet. These are not the Olympic rings but the mobilization calendar of the police during the Paris Olympics, which was unveiled in September by the unions. Starting from May 8, the beginning of the Olympic torch relay, police officers must have a presence rate of 60%, which will then fluctuate between 75%, 90% and even 100% presence, especially during the first week of the Games. This unprecedented mobilization was announced by Gérald Darmanin as early as October 2022. The Minister of the Interior even stated that there would be no summer vacation for the personnel of the Ministry of the Interior in 2024. “This announcement had fueled the fire,” recalls Guillaume Roux, departmental secretary of Unité SGP 91.
