Dieudonné’s Forbidden Performance in Paris: Council of State Upholds Administrative Court’s Rejection

The Council of State confirmed on Tuesday the decision of the administrative court of Paris to reject the emergency appeal filed by controversial comedian Dieudonné against the police prefect’s ban on his new show in the capital. “The judge of the administrative court of Paris rightly considered that the condition of special urgency was not met,” according to a decision from the highest administrative court.

“The investigation conducted by the judge of the administrative court of Paris revealed that, in a letter dated September 6, 2023, addressed to the production company of this show, the Zenith de Paris terminated with immediate effect the contract binding it to the production company of the show… due to the non-compliance with several contractual obligations, and consequently published on its website the mention of the cancellation of the show,” added the Council of State.

After a failed attempt to schedule the show at the Cirque d’Hiver in early April, Dieudonné and anti-vaccine singer Francis Lalanne were supposed to perform on September 14 at the Zenith de Paris for their new show “La Cage aux fous.”

The police prefect of the capital, Laurent Nuñez, decided on Wednesday to ban the show, especially due to “serious risks… of serious disturbances to public order.”

He specified that it was “common knowledge that the content of previous shows” by Dieudonné “promoted discrimination, persecution, and extermination during World War II.” In response, Francis Lalanne and Dieudonné filed two separate appeals with the administrative court.

Just like in Toulouse, Lyon, Haute-Savoie, Besançon, and Grenoble, their show will indeed be banned in Paris.
