Delays Continue for Professional Macs: Mac Pro and Mac Studio M3 Postponed Yet Again

Professional Macs: Mac Pro allegedly postponed again, Mac Studio M3 has to wait

Apple users anticipating new Macs for professionals will have to wait even longer for the new Mac Pro with Apple silicon. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who has strong connections with Apple, believes that the device won’t be expected at the WWDC 2023 developer conference, which is set for June 5. The new Mac Pro was planned for release this year but is now delayed. Currently, Apple only has one model series equipped with Intel chips on offer. However, at least one new MacBook Air model with an M2 SoC and a 15.5-inch display is expected at WWDC.

The second current professional Mac, the Mac Studio, which Apple introduced last spring as a new model series, is also delayed. It should probably only appear after the new Mac Pro, and Gurman believes Apple wants to avoid cannibalizing the Mac Pro with a Mac Studio M3. Apple is currently behind schedule with the M3 SoCs, which was expected this summer, but the group will probably stay with the M2 for the time being.

In other news, MacBook Pro M2 Max and M2 Pro were launched in January 2023 with a delay. A developer has also configured several new Mac models in a “Find My?” configuration file, which includes “Mac14,8”, “Mac14,3”, and “Mac14,14”. As far as is known, “Mac14,3” and “Mac14,12” stand for Mac mini M2 and M2 Pro.

There are still many question marks with the Mac Pro. It is unclear which SoC it will get, and Apple also has to decide whether to use external graphics cards, although the technical feasibility is in doubt. However, the device could accommodate PCIe expansion cards, like encoding acceleration or for audio and interface purposes.
