Death of an octogenarian following the theft of his bank card in Paris

An octogenarian was found dead on the street after having his bank card stolen right in the middle of the street. The incident occurred in the 20th arrondissement of Paris on Sunday, December 10th, confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office, according to information from Le Parisien. The investigation will determine if the victim’s heart attack is linked to the robbery.

According to initial investigation, the 80-year-old man was on his way to an ATM on Sunday at around 11 am to withdraw money. He was pushed by an individual who took his bank card before fleeing. The octogenarian tried to chase after the thief, but was stopped by bystanders who witnessed the scene. The assailant was able to escape with the help of an accomplice in a vehicle. The victim, who had a facial injury, felt unwell after the chase.

The suspect is still being sought by the second district of the judicial police in connection with an investigation into theft leading to death. The Paris prosecutor’s office specifies that the suspect faces a life sentence for this act, but investigators will have to determine if it was a heart attack that caused the victim’s death.
