Chaos at Austerlitz Station in Paris: SNCF Evening Nightmare, Evacuated Twice in a Few Hours

It was more like Waterloo than Austerlitz this Friday, November 10th at the train station in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. First affected by a power outage, like others in the late afternoon, the station, plunged into darkness, had to be evacuated. The lighting, sound system, and station displays were all affected.

Unlike other stations, the Austerlitz station not only serves the RER C, but also the Intercity trains, which were also impacted. Some passengers experienced long wait times. “I arrived at Austerlitz Station at 6:26 pm, and I just left at 9:40 pm,” one of them reported on X (formerly Twitter).

The problem was resolved around 8:30 pm and the trains gradually resumed their service. However, the station had to be evacuated again around 9:20 pm due to the activation of a fire alarm. The RER C account reported the arrival of the firefighters at 9:43 pm.

“For safety reasons, the trains in the Paris-Austerlitz area must be held at the platform during the firefighters’ intervention,” stated the RER C account.
