Carrollton murderer who fled to Mexico gets sentenced to 30 years in prison

Man to Plead Guilty to Murder of Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District Worker

Gerardo Álvarez, 46, has agreed to plead guilty to the murder of Todd Fenton, a Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district worker, almost a decade after the incident. In exchange for the plea deal, Álvarez will serve a 30-year sentence in prison.

The tragedy occurred on October 2, 2013, at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District bus depot located in the 1500 block of Randolph Street. When police arrived at the scene, they found Todd Fenton lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to his back. Álvarez was identified as the prime suspect through surveillance footage at the facility.

Álvarez worked for Fenton, and after the shooting, he fled to Mexico. Unfortunately, Kathy Fenton, Todd Fenton’s wife, passed away in March 2023 before seeing justice served for her husband’s tragic death. Police announced Álvarez’s plea deal in a statement, acknowledging the family’s long wait for closure.

Álvarez was apprehended in Mexico in October 2020 and extradited to Dallas County in March 2021. In December 2013, he was charged with murder in absentia. He will serve his sentence at the Dallas County jail and plead guilty to the murder charge.

Álvarez’s attorney has not released a statement regarding the plea deal. Joining Al Día’s official Telegram channel provides readers with up-to-date news on their mobile devices.
