Buschmann Anticipates Faster Digitization of the Judiciary

Buschmann now expects more speed in the digitization of the judiciary

Federal Justice Minister Marco Buschmann has announced that progress is expected on larger digitization projects, such as the development of a nationwide database land register. The money for this project will be taken from the 200 million euros allocated for the digitization initiative, with the first 50 million devoted to this cause. The database land register is a joint venture between all 16 federal states, with the aim of developing a method of processing, storing, and displaying the land register in an electronic format. The procedure is intended to replace the existing systems within the federal states by transferring the contained data.

Following months of argument, Buschmann and his departmental colleagues from the federal states signed an agreement on a universal strategy for the digitization of the judiciary on Friday. As part of this agreement, a justice portal with online services will be developed, making access to law easier and more modern for all citizens.

Buschmann has promised the federal states 200 million euros for projects regarding digitization in the judiciary. However, this sum is only a down payment, according to the state’s justice minister, Georg Eisenreich. Justice portal with online services and IT standards will also be created. Buschmann notes that digitization is a significant task that can only be achieved in partnership.

Despite the many crises, the digitization initiative of the federal government now has 200 million euros available for digitization projects, equivalent to the past pact for the rule of law. The pace of the digitization of administration at the federal, state, and local levels are still being debated, with the judiciary’s equipment being the responsibility of the federal states, and therefore leaving the federal government with limited support options.

Overall, this digitizing project is designed to streamline legal processes in Germany, providing citizens with a faster, more convenient method of engaging with legal authorities. This should also help to provide greater transparency over ownership of land, bolstering the legal system further.
