Breaking Records: Sabrent Unveils Unmatched PCIe 5.0 SSD with 14 GB/s Performance

14 GB/s: Sabrent shows the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD so far

All currently available SSDs with PCIe 5.0 use the Phison E26 controller. The only differences between these SSDs are the flash memory used. The Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD and the NE5N from Nextorage, a Phison subsidiary, have a speed of 1600 MT/s and a maximum of 10 GB/s. On the other hand, the Crucial T700 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD, with its fast 2000 MT/s memory, achieves speeds of around 12 GB/s. Sabrent, an American manufacturer, is currently working on a PCIe 5.0 SSD called Rocket X5 Gen 5 SSD, which is expected to have a reading speed of over 14 GB/s. However, its writing speed is also said to be around 12 GB/s. This indicates that Sabrent is using flash memory with an interface speed of 2400 MT/s, which is the maximum speed the E26 controller can handle. The measured values for these SSDs are typically specified for the 2 TB flash configuration; smaller models will be slower.

Sabrent is still in the process of fine-tuning the SSD with Phison, the controller manufacturer. They are also testing different heat sinks. The prototype of the Rocket X5 features a heat sink in the typical Sabrent design, but with a small hole for a mini fan. It is believed that Phison is not only involved in fine-tuning the SSDs but also in their production. The Nextorage 5.0 SSD is also produced by Phison, while the identical Gigabyte SSD is manufactured by Gigabyte itself.
