Bordeaux’s Girondins Movement to Paris: State Council Confirms Ban

The National Supporters Association had asked the Council of State to suspend the decree issued on Thursday by the Ministry of the Interior to ban the arrival of fans of the Bordeaux club for this match of the 15th day of Ligue 2. According to the association, this decree went against “the freedom of movement, freedom of association, freedom of assembly and freedom of expression of visiting supporters”. It provides for the prohibition of individual or collective travel “of any person claiming to be a supporter of Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux or behaving as such” from 00:00 to midnight on Saturday “between the communes of the Gironde department, on the one hand, and the communes of the Ile-de-France region, on the other hand”.

The decision was motivated by risks of public disorder. The ministry had recalled incidents accompanying the travel of Bordeaux supporters in 2021, 2022 and 2023. It also relies on the fact that “law enforcement agencies are heavily mobilized to deal with the terrorist threat” and that they “will be particularly mobilized on the day of the meeting by securing several events”. The reaction of the supporters’ association was not long in coming: “The Council of State rejected our request in a hallucinating decree where it is explained that Girondins supporters are a public danger when traveling and that PFC supporters are violent at home”.

The Administrative Court of Paris, also seized, will render its decree on Saturday morning.
