“Atlas Fallen”, “Blasphemous II”: New PC games in August 2023

In August, “Dark Souls” developer FromSoftware will release the mecha action game “Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon”. Also coming is Atlas Fallen, an action-RPG from Deck13, creators of The Surge franchise.

Atlas Fallen
“Atlas Fallen” will be released for Windows and the current generation of consoles on August 10, 2023. The action RPG comes from the German development studio Deck13, which was also responsible for the Soulslikes “The Surge” and “The Surge 2”. Unlike the “The Surge” games, the focus of “Atlas Fallen” is not on tough, sometimes frustrating boss fights, but more on traditional, dynamic action.

In addition, there should be three levels of difficulty, so that veterans and casual players alike get their money’s worth. Players take on the role of the self-created protagonist, who carries an ancient gauntlet as his main weapon, which can be used to control sand, transform it into weapons and use it against opponents. The glove can also be used as a means of locomotion, to manipulate objects and to solve puzzles.

As the game progresses, the player collects resources that can be used to upgrade the gauntlet and equip it with new abilities. “Atlas Fallen” offers an open game world typical of role-playing games with an exciting main story, countless side quests and plenty of freedom to explore. According to the developers, the game design was influenced by popular role-playing games such as “God of War” and “Horizon Zero Dawn”.

Blasphemous II
In September 2019, “Blasphemous” was released, an extremely successful indie metroidvania with beautiful pixel graphics and lots of brutal hack’n’slash action. From August 24, 2023, players can slip into the role of the “penitent” again, because then the long-awaited sequel “Blasphemous II” will finally be released.

The story of “Blasphemous II” ties in with the events of the free DLC “Wounds of Eventide”. The “miracle” once again faces the penitent as a great evil, waiting to bring the player a quick demise with the help of horrifying monsters, treacherous traps and bosses with unique attack patterns and deadly abilities.

The penitent faces a difficult journey through hostile environments in a non-linear game world in which he has an expanded arsenal of weapons and numerous new skills and combos at his disposal. At first glance, “Blasphemous II” is in no way inferior to its predecessor in terms of atmosphere and grotesque art style, which should please fans of the first game.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
The developer studio FromSoftware, best known for souls games like “Dark Souls” or “Elden Ring”, is launching the mecha action game “Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon” on August 25, 2023. Masaru Yamamura, previously Lead Game Designer on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, led the game’s development.

It’s been almost ten years since the last part of the “Armored Core” game series was released with “Armored Core: Verdict Day”. At the heart of the gameplay of “Armored Core VI” are the so-called Armored Cores, gigantic mechs (combat robots) that can be equipped with all sorts of technical equipment – especially weapons.

The story of “Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon” takes place on the planet Rubicon 3, where researchers have discovered a promising new energy source called “Coral”. Unaware of the power of the resource, experiments lead to a devastating catastrophe that will reduce the planet to rubble.

Taking on the role of an augmented human named “Raven” piloting an Armored Core, players wage a war for control of the “Coral” half a century after the Cataclysm.
