Apple’s 5G chip: The Key to iPhone SE’s Next Generation

iPhone SE: The next generation should depend on Apple's 5G chip

Apple’s iPhone SE is stirring up the tech world again as rumors circulate about a possible new model with a mobile chip developed by Apple itself. As the first Apple device to feature Apple’s 5G chip, its release would be a major move by the tech giant, especially after Intel failed to develop a 5G chip for the company. For now, there are conflicting reports about what the iPhone SE’s new model will look like, but some analysts suggest that it may have a 6.1-inch OLED display and be released as early as 2025.

While a new iPhone SE may offer improvements before Apple’s flagship models, the device’s history makes it difficult to predict. After its initial release in 2016, there was a four-year hiatus before the second generation was launched in 2020, followed by a third generation in 2022. A fourth generation release in 2026 would not be unexpected.

Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who previously predicted that a new iPhone SE would not be released until 2025, now suggests that Apple is making a technical sample to test the self-developed 5G chips for mass production. He believes production for the new model could be pushed back to 2026 or later.

Despite the conflicting reports, analysts from Haitong International Securities suggest that a new iPhone SE with its own 5G chip will be released in 2025, with Apple’s supplier TSMC in charge of manufacturing the modem. Whether the new iPhone SE will be a game-changer for Apple and the tech world remains to be seen, but with a long and eventful history, there’s no doubt the next generation will be closely watched.
