Agricultural Protests: Tractors Return to Paris, Operation Snail Pace on Capital’s Ring Road

Farmers remain mobilized this Friday, February 23, on the eve of the opening of the Agricultural Show. This morning, tractors went to the Paris ring road to carry out a go-slow operation. Several actions are planned throughout the day.

Despite being unsatisfied with the promises and actions of the government, Emmanuel Macron is preparing to visit the Agricultural Show on Saturday in a tense climate after wanting to invite the Soulevements de la Terre to a debate with the agricultural world, angering the unions. The president’s invitation to #SIA of a group whose dissolution has been requested by his own government is an unacceptable provocation for farmers. “I had agreed to participate in a debate. Under these conditions, I refuse to take part in what will only be a farce,” said the head of the largest agricultural union, Arnaud Rousseau. He was quickly joined by his counterpart from the Young Farmers, Arnaud Gaillot. The Elysée soon backtracked with the announcement that the group, initially called “eco-terrorist” by Gérald Darmanin, was no longer invited “to ensure the serenity of the debates”.

Between Gimont and Auch, farmers are currently carrying out a partial blocking action on the N124, according to the Gers Department.

A convoy of around fifty tractors is currently occupying the Paris ring road, on the eve of the opening of the Agricultural Show. The protesters arrived from the A4 highway and are heading towards the Porte de Saint-Cloud.
