A Computer Containing Confidential IGGN Data Stolen at Paris Saint-Lazare Station

On Friday, March 15, around 5 p.m., a lieutenant of the gendarmerie had his work computer stolen, which reportedly contained confidential data concerning the Inspectorate General of the National Gendarmerie (IGGN), as reported by Le Figaro. The device, belonging to the national gendarmerie, is protected by a password.

The gendarmerie lieutenant was reportedly robbed of his computer while on line 13 of the Paris metro, departing from Montparnasse. It was when he was getting off at the Saint-Lazare station that the military officer had his device stolen from a bag.

In recent weeks, there has been a rise in thefts of computers and electronic devices containing sensitive data. On February 27, an engineer from the Paris city hall had his bag stolen, including a computer and two USB sticks containing security plans for the Olympics, at the Gare du Nord. Two days later, the general secretary of the Avicenne Hospital in Bobigny had her computer with documents related to the Olympics stolen as well.
