In 2021, Apple unveiled new 3D models for selected cities in their updated maps. These new models were much more detailed and true to scale than previous versions. While these special sights were a neat addition, they can be difficult for users to locate on their own.
Enter Landmarks, a new app designed to act as a directory for these 3D models. Developed by a Russian-Ukrainian couple residing in Canada, it currently lists 300 of these special sights. The app is free to download, with an in-app purchase available for a gyroscope function to enhance the viewing experience.
Landmarks includes 3D models in several German cities, such as Hamburg, Berlin, and Munich. Additionally, the developers promise that the models will be displayed better within their app than in the Apple Maps app.
Users can choose to view the sights within the Landmarks app or switch to Apple Maps from there. And if 300 models aren’t enough, former Apple chief cartographer Justin O’Beirne offers a list of these special sights on his website.
Overall, Landmarks is a handy tool for users looking to explore these unique 3D models and enhance their viewing experience. The app is available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.
