100 euros and tickets in exchange for housing for students at Crous

The Minister of Higher Education plans to use 3,200 student accommodations during the Olympic Games. The Minister of Higher Education is offering a compensation of 100 euros and two tickets to attend an event for students who are displaced from their university residences during the Olympics. The Director General of Crous, Clément Cadoret, believes that there are 6,000 vacant Crous accommodations in the Île-de-France region during the summer, so there should not be a problem in relocating the students. Sylvie Retailleau states that 1,667 accommodations in the Olympic Village and Media Village, including 1,300 in Seine-Saint-Denis, will be converted into student accommodations after the Paris Olympics. In late August, the Administrative Court of Paris suspended the decision of Crous to limit the occupancy leases of student accommodations for the Paris 2024 Olympics to June 30th. Although the government promises to offer a relocation solution without additional costs to the 2,200 affected students, the response from the government is seen as insufficient by the Secretary-General of the Solidaires Etudiants union. On the other hand, the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, insists that everything is being done to support the students, emphasizing that the Olympic Games are exceptional. The announcement of compensation by the Minister has sparked sarcasm, with Paris deputy Julien Bayou tweeting, “100 euros and a Mars bar, Paris 2024 version.” The President of Fage, the Federation of General Student Associations, Maëlle Nizan, considers these measures to be completely inadequate in meeting the needs of the students, and views them as an additional source of anxiety.
