iMessage on Apple Watch paralyzed: Users report serious problems

Apple Watch users have reported issues with their devices. According to reports, iMessage, the messaging app supported by the device, crashes as soon as a chat is opened. This prevents the receipt, opening, and composing of new messages. The first reports of these crashes date back to approximately two weeks ago, and they have been growing ever since. The bug seems to be spreading, and it has become increasingly problematic. The issue has made iMessage unusable on an Apple Watch in the Mac & i editorial department.

Sometimes, users receive a new iMessage, which causes the device to freeze and display a black screen with a loading wheel. The device remains paralyzed until the clock face finally appears again. In addition to problems with composing messages, the error prevents users from selecting ready-made quick answers.

Even common troubleshooting solutions like restarting the Apple Watch have not been effective against the issue. More tedious actions have been ineffective as well, such as unpairing and re-pairing the watch or resetting it. The error is affecting the device’s reaction to messages, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to work around.

However, Apple has promised to release an update for the watch’s operating system, watchOS 9.5, which will eliminate the iMessage bug according to developers with access to the preliminary version of the upgrade. Apple has stated that the update should appear shortly and will be available with the new Pride Edition for the current calendar week 20. It is hoped that this fix will remedy the issues and restore the functionality of iMessage on the Apple Watch.
