With just seven months to go until the 2024 Paris Olympics, the director-general of Île-de-France Mobilités, Laurent Probst, has assured the public that everything will be ready in time. He has also provided three tips for navigating the city during the event.
Probst stated that their transportation plans include 15% more capacity on all lines servicing the Olympic sites than the anticipated demand, which also accounts for the everyday summertime needs in addition to those related to the games.
He reassures that there will not be any transportation saturation and that there will be enough drivers to allow all visitors and Parisians to move around without any issues.
Probst gives several tips for a smooth commute, including purchasing tickets in advance through the website set to launch in February, as well as using an app scheduled to be released in April to plan routes ahead of time.
He also emphasizes the importance of preparing routes in advance and mentions an application that will not necessarily provide the shortest route, but rather the most comfortable one to manage overall traffic flows.
Probst explains that Île-de-France Mobilités has reached out to two other route planning applications, CityMapper and GoogleMaps, to ensure that the new plans are readily accessible to everyone, but warns that these apps may be asked to shut down if they do not cooperate.
He finally encourages everyone to “enjoy” this “great celebration” of the Olympics, highlighting the importance of making the most of this event.
