During the night of October 2 to 3, 2016, Kim Kardashian, then 36, was robbed by several men, some dressed as police officers, in a discreet luxury hotel residence in Paris, where she had come to attend Fashion Week. Jewels worth more than six million dollars were stolen and mostly never recovered.
Two robbers threatened her with a gun, tied her up, and gagged her. “He asked me with a strong French accent for my +ring+” (ring), she had told the police just after the theft. “They tied me up (…) and then carried me into my bathroom,” where she had been locked up.
Three other men were standing guard at the reception, a sixth was behind the wheel of a vehicle to ensure the getaway. The robbers took several diamond and gold jewels, including an 18.88 carat stone.
The group, described by the police as a gang of “old school” criminals, is suspected of committing the largest robbery against an individual in the last twenty years in France.
Ten alleged gang members are to stand trial in the criminal court for the robbery or abduction of Kim Kardashian, while an eleventh is being tried solely for another criminal project on which the judges suspected part of the gang of working on after the one that targeted Kim Kardashian.
A twelfth will be tried for a related offense related to a violation of weapons legislation.
