There were four spots left to be revealed for the 2024 Paris Olympics, three for men and one for women. The French Judo Federation announced on February 23, the names of the last three male judokas selected: Joan-Benjamin Gaba (-73kg), Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou (-90kg), and Aurélien Diesse (-100kg). The other four representatives were announced on November 24: Luka Mkheidze (-60 kg), Walide Khyar (-66 kg), Alpha Djalo (-81 kg), and Teddy Riner (+100 kg).
Battle until the end between Tcheuméo and Malonga
For women, one spot remains to be assigned in the less than 78 kg category. It will likely come down to Madeleine Malonga, silver medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and Audrey Tcheuméo, bronze medalist at the 2012 London Games and silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Games. Tcheuméo faced a more difficult period, not being selected for the Tokyo Olympics in favor of Madeleine Malonga, but she won the silver medal at the 2023 Doha World Championships. Malonga won the last encounter between the two rivals at the Grand Slam in Paris in early February.
The decision should be made by the French Judo Federation by the end of April at the latest. Until then, Audrey Tcheuméo will compete in the Georgia Grand Slam from March 22 to 24, while Madeleine Malonga will participate in the Antalya Grand Slam from March 29 to 31. The other six spots have already been assigned to Shirine Boukli (-48 kg), Amandine Buchard (-52 kg), Sarah-Léonie Cysique (-57 kg), Clarisse Agbégnénou (-63 kg), Marie-Ève Gahié (-70 kg), and Romane Dicko (+78 kg).
